Steller Systems Awarded Innovation Funding for Uncrewed Vessel

Friday, June 11th, 2021

Steller Systems has been awarded a contract from the Defence & Security Accelerator (DASA) to continue the development of its uncrewed maritime vessel WRAITH. This contract will build on the recent success of its scale functioning demonstrator, which was designed and built under DASA & Future Commando Force funding. Recently the demonstrator underwent in-water trials in front of customers and a number of VIPs, which provided a convincing demonstration of the platform’s unique CONOPS.

This latest contract will further de-risk some of the most innovative features of the design. Steller Systems will work closely with SeeByte, who are leaders in creating robust, reliable and innovative software solutions for autonomous maritime systems, and 10XL, innovators in large-scale 3D printing.

The Defence & Security Accelerator, part of the Ministry of Defence, finds and funds exploitable innovation to support UK defence and security. WRAITH is a highly innovative and flexible naval asset which will provide transformational capability to the Royal Navy and Future Commando Force across a broad range of key military roles.

Innovation in Uncrewed Vehicles

Monday, June 7th, 2021

Steller Systems has recently completed another UXV design for an innovative and forward-looking client. The team at Steller Systems has experience of approaching UXV design from all angles:

✅    Thought leadership – we have helped develop UXV roadmaps and strategies and presented peer-reviewed papers at leading industry conferences.

✅    Horizon scanning – we have researched emerging technologies that can be used in UXVs and developed blue-sky designs to inform investment decisions.

✅     Concept design – we have an extensive portfolio of surface and subsurface UXVs for a number of clients to meet specific mission requirements, as well as our own designs WRAITH, SPOOK, SPECTRE and EIDOLON.

✅     Build and rapid prototyping – we have employed innovative production techniques, used sustainable materials to minimise environmental impact through life, and conducted highly successful in-water trials.

✅     Development of UXV Launch & Recovery Systems – including cutting-edge research in collaboration with the US Navy’s NUWC.

✅     Design of vessels specifically optimised for the operation of UXVs – including our light frigate design SPARTAN, and an optionally-manned TX SHIP designed in partnership with Thales to help navies transition to unmanned operations.
